Alcohol-related goods in categories 33 and 32 and pork products in category 29 cannot be registered, and multiple applications for one standard are accepted. The elements that can be registered as trademarks in Iraq are words, names, graphics, three-dimensional logos, color combinations, slogans, appearance, etc.

the Iraqi trademark jurisdiction is divided into two: Baghdad and the Autonomous Region of Kurdistan, the two registries operate independently. Therefore, if you want to be protected in the whole country, you need to register separately in two regions. Information to be provided when applying in Baghdad: 1. Name and address of the applicant; 2. Trademark name, pattern, category and name of specific commodity items; 3. Power of attorney certified by the embassy (the original power of attorney can be submitted within 6 months from the date of application); 4. Other domestic registration certificates or applications (this requirement is not mandatory, but helps to speed up the application process); 5. A scanned copy of the passport of the signatory of the power of attorney. Information required to apply in Kurdistan: 1. Name and address of the applicant; 2. Trademark name, pattern, category and name of specific commodity items; 3. Power of attorney certified by the embassy (the original power of attorney can be submitted within 6 months from the date of application); 4. Registration certificate of other countries. In the absence of this certificate, it is necessary to prove that the applicant has a production plant in the country, or that the factory that produces/manufactures the goods has issued a statement in favor of the applicant, proving that they have no objection to the registration of the trademark in Kurdistan in their name; 5. A scanned copy of the passport of the signatory of the power of attorney.

3. Review Form

The examination of Iraqi trademarks is divided into formal examination and substantive examination. Upon examination, applications for the registration of Iraqi trademarks that are considered registrable by the Iraqi Trademark Office will be published in the official Iraqi journal for public evaluation; applications for the registration of Iraqi trademarks that are announced without objection or are ruled unfounded will be granted by the Iraqi Trademark Office and an Iraqi trademark certificate will be issued to the applicant.

An application for registration of an Iraqi trademark is valid for 10 years from the date of application and is renewed for 10 years after expiration. Applications for renewal may be made within 1 year prior to the expiry of the validity period, with a grace period of 6 months.
