After the applicant submits the application documents to the UAE Patent Office, the UAE Patent Office will conduct a formal review of the application documents within 5 working days; for the application documents that have passed the formal review, the UAE Patent Office will issue a preliminary examination notice. Applicants are required to submit final supplementary materials within 18 months from the date of application.

the application documents that have passed the formal examination will enter the substantive examination stage; if there are substantive examination opinions, the applicant should reply within three months. Once the substantive examination is passed, the application will be published before authorization; the rejected application can be reviewed with the competent committee of the UAE Ministry of Economy within 60 days.
