The examination of Singapore trademarks is divided into formal examination and substantive examination. If the examiner does not find a reason to reject the trademark registration, the trademark application will be published in the trademark journal for 2 months, during which time the trademark will be registered if no objection is received by IPOS (Intellectual Property Office of Singapore). If the examiner finds that the application can be rejected, the applicant will receive an examination report stating the reasons for the rejection and will be required to supplement the necessary materials or amend the application materials within 4 months. If the applicant fails to amend the application materials within the prescribed time limit, it will be deemed to have abandoned the application.

registered Singapore trademark is 10 years from the date of application. The applicant can renew the registered trademark within 6 months before the expiration date and every 10 years. If the trademark is not renewed within 6 months of expiration, the trademark status will change to "Deleted (Recoverable)". At this stage, the mark may still be restored within the last 6 months. Trademark holders should recover by filing Form TM19 and the corresponding fee, which will be higher than the leniency fee.
