The examination forms of Singapore invention patents are divided into formal examination and substantive examination. IPOS will first conduct formal examination after receiving the patent application and application fee, and will determine the application date after passing the preliminary examination. Those who do not conform to the formal examination shall overcome the defects within 2 months after receiving the correction notice from IPOS. The patent application is published 18 months from the filing date/priority date, and the applicant may make a request for early publication. The applicant can choose three ways to submit a search request and substantive examination, and submit a request for substantive examination at the latest 36 months from the date of application, and pay the corresponding fees. IPOS will examine patent applications for novelty, inventive step and industrial applicability. Applicants who have search results from other countries can use the Patent Examination Expressway and the ASEAN Patent Examination Cooperation Procedure to obtain patents in Singapore faster and more effectively.
