Sri Lanka does not accept multi-category applications for one standard, the constituent elements of a registrable trademark mainly include: arbitrary or imaginary name, name, pseudonym, geographical name, slogan, graphic, relief, letter, number, label, outer package, symbol, seal, stamp, imprint, flower decoration, edge decoration, edge decoration, color combination and the appearance of goods or containers.

3. Review Form

formal examination and substantive examination. After filing an application for trademark registration, the Trademark Registry examines whether the trademark is registrable, whether it is identical or similar to a previously registered trademark, and whether it violates the prohibition provisions of trademark law. For trademarks that do not pass the substantive examination, the examining officer will notify the applicant in writing and inform the reasons for rejection. The applicant may submit a review within the F time limit after receiving the notice of rejection, otherwise, the application will be deemed to have been abandoned, and the application date and application number will not be retained. Upon examination, the Examining Officer considers that the trademark application is acceptable, then an announcement will be published in the Sri Lanka Official Trademark Bulletin. The objection period will be 3 months from the date of the announcement. The trademark that has been ruled to be registrable upon objection or the trademark that has been announced will be approved for registration and a registration certificate will be issued.

10 years from the date of application. Renewals can be proposed 12 months before the expiration date, with a leniency period of 6 months and a renewal period of 10 years.
