French design takes effect from the date of application for registration, is valid for 5 years, and can be renewed every 5 years for 25 years. (Designs submitted before 1 October 2001 can still have their rights protected for a period of 25 years from the date of their submission without renewal; designs that enjoyed priority before 1 October 2001 can still have their rights protected for a period of 25 years until the expiration of the period).

1. Show the product drawing or picture of the design; 2. The name of the patent and the detailed specification of the patent; 3. Valid identification documents, the applicant is an individual, and a copy of the personal ID card is required; the applicant is a unit, and a copy of the business license is required; 4. The applicant's name, detailed address, contact information, designer's name and other information; 5. Priority application country, application number and application date (if priority is claimed), copies of priority supporting documents and their translations may be submitted within three months of the application date; 6. Letter of appointment (e. g. entrusted agent). Note: (1) French design is divided into two forms: ordinary application and simple application. After the review of INPI, the time of disclosure is different for different forms of application. (2) If the application is made in the name of more than one person, or if the applicant has no domicile in France, the European Union or the European Economic Area, an agent must be appointed.
