Japanese design patent examination is a formal examination and substantive examination. The examiner checks whether the application documents submitted to the JPO meet the procedural and formal requirements. If the document does not meet the necessary requirements, it will be required to be revised again. The examiner will review the submitted application documents for compliance with the requirements. Where there is an application that does not meet the substantive requirements, the JPO will send a notice stating the reasons for rejection. The applicant may submit written opinions or amendments to the reasons for rejection. The examiner determines that the application meets all requirements, and the design registration is granted. After registration is granted, the applicant pays the registration fee, the right to design begins to be born, and the right to design that has been registered and entered into force will be announced in the design bulletin.
