2. Review Form

The examination forms of American appearance patents are divided into formal examination and substantive examination. The examination of the applied appearance patent by the examiner takes about 12-24 months, and may be longer. If it is rejected, the applicant must state his opinions or amendments within 3 months from the date of the notice of review opinions. If he cannot reply within 3 months, he may appropriately request an extension of the reply period. The total response period shall not exceed 6 months. The patent meets the requirements and is authorized. The applicant shall, within three months from the date of receipt of the notification, go through the formalities for patent registration and pay the official fee at the same time.

U.S. appearance patents are valid for 15 years from the date of grant. After 15 years, the patent holder no longer has exclusive rights to the patent and the product becomes a publicly available product (note whether the product is also protected by a trademark or copyright).
